Karon takes the side of her favorite shawl, with its chocolate brown velvet and silk.
She takes the side of biking along the Highline Canal, enjoying the peace and beauty of nature.
She takes the side of singing in her church choir. As the granddaughter and namesake of concert violinist Majeel Berry, Karon has always been drawn to music. She takes the side of Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, and classic jazz. And if you ask her nicely, she might even tell you about back in the day when she sang with a few reggae bands.
Karon takes the side of serving her community. Raised by parents who taught by example the importance of community activism, she now takes the side of every Board, Coalition, and Task Force she can find. She takes the side of tutoring public school students, and mentoring teens in her community. She takes the side of social justice.
Professional Précis
Karon has more than 30 years of experience in marketing, writing and communications. She discovered a talent for training and writing manuals in the personnel department at Washington University in St. Louis. This, coupled with her passion for training and marketing, have made her an indispensable asset to many organizations in Colorado.
Previously, she served as the Executive Director at the Denver Election Commission, and she has traveled throughout Colorado as the State Trainer for Campaign and Political Finance. As the assistant to Colorado’s Secretary of State, she worked closely with the Hon. Vikki Buckley, the first black female to hold statewide legislative office.
Throughout her personal and professional lives, Karon has diligently sought out projects that progressively serve the common good. She is currently a member of the Denver Gang Task Force Coalition and the Women’s Foundation Family Action Network, she is an Executive Board Member of the African American Voter Information and Registration Project, and she is the Political Issues and Education Chair of Colorado Black Women for Political Action.
