The City of Thornton, Colorado earned honors in the 2007 Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards competition held by the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC) to recognize the government’s best in print, video and multimedia communications.
NAGC is a national organization for communications professionals at the national, state and local levels of government. Group members include editors, writers, graphic artists, video professionals, broadcasters, photographers, information specialists, and agency spokespersons. Blue Pencil Awards honor outstanding writing and print materials while Gold Screen Awards are given to recognize excellence in Web, audio, video and other multimedia.
Worldways Social Marketing worked closely with the Water Resources Division to imagine a fully-integrated social marketing campaign designed to increase water efficiency among Thornton residents. The community outreach campaign became the Thornton Water Drive, which launched in May of 2007. Elements of the Water Drive include an identifiable logo, versatile table- top display boards targeting children and adults, information cards with a perforated mail-in pledge card, waterproof reminder faucet tags, bus shelter posters, newspaper ads, magazine ads, and residential lawn signs. The multimedia component of the campaign also includes an interactive Website and TV commercials.
The award winners will be honored at a ceremony on Tuesday, April 29th in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during the 2008 NAGC Communications School. More information about the NAGC awards, including a complete list of winners, is available at nagconline.org
