Thornton Hosts First-Ever Water Saving Champions Family Field Day

Together with Worldways, the City of Thornton hosted a fun-soaked field day on August 23, 2008 to celebrate and encourage local families’ efforts to save water around the house.

“It’s a celebration for all our citizens who have cut back on their water use and saved millions of gallons of water,” said Thornton Water Resources Analyst Laura Wing. The ongoing Water Drive, A Little Goes a Long Way, encourages citizens to become water-saving champions by saving 10 gallons of water each day. “So far, over 600 residents have taken the pledge and collectively they’ll save an estimated 2,109,000 gallons of water a year,” said Wing.

Family-geared fun events like an inflatable relay race, giant tricycle races, a bungee run race, a potato sack race, a dunk tank and a gift card raffle and prizes for the race winners kept festival-goers smiling throughout the day. But it was the highlight of the event, “Mr. Running Water,” who made the biggest splash.

Ten-gallon hats off to everyone who celebrated water conservation at Water Saving Champions Family Field Day. Thornton’s water-saving campaign is successfully raising awareness about the need for water conservation in Thornton and providing practical ways to conserve water outdoors and indoors. Worldways is proud to be a part of this campaign because saving water makes the world a better place. That’s a side we gladly take.
