2006 was a very important year for many of our clients, partners, friends, and colleagues, all of whom should be lauded for their continued work, making the world a better place. Congratulations to:

Freedom from Hunger for receiving a major grant from The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to combine micro-loans with health protection services for the world’s rural poor. The four-year grant recognizes Freedom from Hunger’s leadership in making microcredit programs available to people considered too poor and too vulnerable to illness to qualify for bank loans.

Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan for successfully launching its Commonwealth Care option after achieving its position as the leading MassHealth Managed Care Plan in Massachusetts.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Co-Chair of the Freedom from Hunger Ambassadors Council, for being honored with the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Yunus pioneered a program known as microcredit that provides self-help solutions to the problem of poverty in very poor countries.

The National Association of County and City Health Officials for launching the national brand for local public health. The icon, a three-pointed stylized shield, reinforces the three core functions of public health: prevention, promotion and protection. This identity is now being adopted by health departments everywhere.

The Parents and Communities for Kids initiative, for receiving a major grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for a new project, entitled “Greater New Haven Family Learning Partnership,” in partnership with the New Haven Free Public Library, Connecticut Public Broadcasting, Inc., and the Connecticut Children’s Museum. This new grant will allow the partners to take greater advantage of libraries as entry points for learning activities.

Freedom from Hunger, for launching Reach Global in India, where they hope to reach a million people with self-help services by 2008. It is the home to several major initiatives: the development of Learning Conversations (interactive, single-topic education sessions that can be provided to any self-help group), a major new effort to extend HIV education on prevention and management to rural communities funded by GlaxoSmithKline, and Reach, an innovative approach to distributing more self-help services to more people.

Public Health – Seattle & King County and Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System, as they work to produce national Advanced Practice Centers in Emergency Preparedness tools addressing vulnerable populations and healthcare coalition building.

Bronx Health REACH, as it introduces new resources for advancing community-based approaches to making health equality a reality as a grantee of the U.S. Centers for Disease Controls REACH 2010 initiative.

The Worldways Creative Services team, for receiving a Gold Davey Award. The award was presented by the International Academy of the Visual Arts for brand identity work on the Freedom from Hunger Reach project logos. The 2006 Gold Davey Award complements previous honors received, including two silver Davey awards in 2005 for work in television and branding campaigns.

Our own Felipe Aguilar, for being recognized by Graphic Design USA’s 30th Annual American Graphic Design Awards, for his work on the Mission Wall project which lives on two floors in the Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan corporate office.
