Advanced Practice Centers in Emergency Preparedness
On The Side Of Safer Communities
In 2003, the National Association of County and City Health Officials and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control designated 5 public health departments in the nation Advanced Practice Centers in Emergency Preparedness (APCs). Worldways Social Marketing is currently working with 2 of the 5 APCs, as well as the national program office to improve the effectiveness of emergency preparedness initiatives across the country.
Working closely with Santa Clara County Public Health Department (SCCPHD), we created a community-wide multilingual emergency-preparedness campaign. This included the Pocket Guide to Emergency Preparation and the Pocket Guide to Preparing for Pandemic Flu, both of which are now disseminated nationally.
We also worked with Public Health—Seattle and King County (PHSKC) to create Web-based toolkits for public health professionals, focusing on Isolation and Quarantine and Workforce Activation. We are currently working on a number of projects related to vulnerable populations and healthcare coalitions.
